'Angel John' bombs at Box Office.;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
According to experts, director Jayasuriya has not made a bad movie in "Angel John". However the movie failed to bring in audiences because of its inappropriate timing of release. The movie was released when the mega movie "Pazhassi Raja" released and the crowd was all attracted to that one. The result is that "Angel John" has crashed at the box office and seems to have been declared a holdover from day five at many centers. The Mohanlal starrer had created lots of expectations as well but failed to deliver. No Mohanlal film in recent times has taken such a poor opening. The film on its second day fell flat, and in some smaller stations was 'Hold Over' (trade term for not getting the minimum required gross collection. Many feels sorry for the director Jayasuriya who has not made a bad film, but couldn't save it from a release at the most inappropriate time. With the big list of films that are to grace theatres next week, ‘Angel John’ with its present state of collections will clear off the major centres in a maximum of three weeks. The movie is one of the biggest ever failures from Mohanlal in recent times, only after to ‘Photographer’, which came out a couple of years ago.

Ranjith sought a direction from the Union Broadcasting Ministry to conduct an inquiry into the selection process and how the leak took place with one of the members leaking out the results before the official briefing.

Publishing the list of films selected for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India, 2009, to be held in Goa from November 23 was stayed by the Kerala High Court on Thursday. Justice P.N. Ravindran ordered that the interim stay order would remain in force until the writ petition challenging the selection of the films was disposed of. The order came on a writ petition filed by film producer and director Ranjit. Ranjit's `Thirakkatha' and `Kerala Cafe' were sent to Panorama. He alleged that Panorama jury members were sidelining Malayalam films deliberately. According to him, though the directorate had not announced the selections made by the jury, the names of the films had been posted on a private website run by Goutham Bhaskar, who is one of the jury members. The list should be announced by the Director of Indian Federation of Film Industry. The act of jury member is against the rule. Pazhassiraja "The BoxOffice King"
Hariharan- MT Vasudevan Nair classic Pazhassi Raja produced by Gokulam Gopalan with Megastar Mammootty playing the title role has taken Kerala by storm. The film has grossed an amazing record Rs 1.57 crores from 130 screens in Kerala on its opening day (October 16). Pazhassiraja - A Royal Megahit..
It was 18 years before M.T penned the character of 'Chandu' in 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha'. And now the stalwarts Hariharan, Mammootty and M.T who were behind the successful film comes together to recreate the magic on the screen with the making of another heroic epic - Pazhassi Raja. Focusing on the life story of Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Padinjare Kovilakom of the Kottayam family the trio brings forth the valiant fights of the native ruler against the British power in India. The advanced technical aspects are sure to boost the film. Being shot with a Pan Vision camera, the film exploits the latest technical advancements offering tremendous visual possibilities in the backdrops of the forests and the wars. Hariharan, a director notable for his works revolving around the cultural and relational aspects of a typical Kerala society has always been successful in bringing movies with solid scripts. Film like;Sargam, Nakhashathangal, Panchagni, Amritamgamaya, Aranyakam, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Ennu Swantham Janakikutty are few among his outstanding works. Especially one couldn't forget the master craftsmanship Hariharan epitomized in the making of Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha. The title itself says what one can expect from a director of his stature. Hariharan's movies always bring rich music treat to the audience. Hariharan when joined with M.T has always brought magic on screen. Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Ennu Swantham Janakikutty are among them. Who else can potray the real background of Pazhassi onto a movie script than the legend who has won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay four times for movies like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Kadavu, Sadayam, and Parinayam. M.T, one of the most prolific and versatile writers of modern Malayalam literature would definitely come up with a true portrayal of the epical story. Let's wait to enjoy how mesmerizing would be this subject to the audience. With Super megastar Mammotty in the lead role, one could look forward for a stunning story from the hands of a skillful writer like M.T. Hariharan has to take extra care to fulfill audience expectation and so the making of Pazhassi Raja will be more challenging than before. Hope the team would churn out another milestone in the history of Malayalam cinema. Mammootty plays the title role of Pazhassi Raja who fought against British in the jungles of Wayanad in the 1790's. Mammootty's persona is definitely going to pull the crowd to the theatre as none would be able to forget his outstanding performance in the role of Chandu. This man is sure to enhance the real life hero's character and personality and the stars presence would familiarize Pazhassi Raja with the young generation who seldom remembers the freedom strugglers of the past. The magnetic presence the actor brings onto the screen while depicting epical characters transcend the audience to a different world altogether. Pazhassiraja the ruler fought against the illegal tax collection of the East India Company from the Malabar civilians. But Pazhassi Raja was forced to move to the jungle as oppositions overpowered on him. With the help of Adivasis(tribes) he struggled against the British. At last he was captured and shot dead in a place called Mavila Thodu by a British Officer called Harvey Babar. Padmapriya takes on the role of a tribal girl in this film. Sarath Kumar with his debut in Malayalam film will play the role of Edachena Kunkan, the best friend of Pazhassi Raja. He achieved the title Veera (brave) when he died fighting a guerrilla war against British occupation. Manoj K. Jayan, Thilakan, Kanika Subramaniam, Peter Handley Evans, Harry Key, and Jagathi Sreekumar are the other pivotal roles in this film. "Pazhassi Raja" has rich soundtrack by an acclaimed composer Illayaraja and the Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty.
The much awaited Mamootty's movie 'Pazhassi Raja', which had been delaying for quite some time, has been released on October16,Friday. The movie features Megastar Mammootty who was a relieved man as the movie has finally hit the screens. Also with the release of the movie, he is very excited. He said that Pazhassi Raja was the costliest Malayalam film till date and it will be an event in the history of films. The initial response when you come out of the theatre after watching the hugely mounted Malayalam film Pazhassi Raja is pleasant surprise. Until now we have only heard complaints of financial constrain from the filmmakers for low production values and haphazardly put up story lines. But this movie made on a budget of average ten Malayalam movies, has a quality that has never been seen before.
Pazhassiraja,A must watch movie, which may bag many awards. This film is technically several notches above the standard fare offered in Malayalam cinema. It would not be an exaggeration if we say that it is comparable to the best in Indian cinema. The camera work by Venu and Ramanath Shetty give the film a sleek look. The action sequences remind us of the internationally acclaimed Chinese martial art movies of recent times like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero.
Hariharan's film is truly a masterpiece in that it has the manner, matter and mood of a monumental epic, in the finest sense of the word. This is no ordinary film that tells the story of a hero; rather, it's a stellar celluloid piece that vividly recaptures every moment in history, never for a moment losing out on the human drama, never compromising on its immense scope or scale, never ever letting go of its elaborate craft and detail. The film is full of invigorating battle sequences that literally involve a mammoth cast of hundreds and hundreds of people. Magnificently staged, they feel real, and mounted on a giant-scale entertainment canvas, this is perhaps the first time ever that a Malayalam film awes you on account of its visual brilliance. There are any number of spectacular sequences here that would surprise you on account of their visceral energy. Mammootty is grace personified and the perhaps the best thing about him as the mighty Pazhassi Raja is that it is virtually impossible to imagine anyone else in his place. Shorn of any artifice or nervous energy he is real. 20 years after Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, he still looks majestic and handsome. Without doubt, this is one of the best roles in his illustrious career. The surprise packet is Sarath Kumar, who looks perfectly fit, heroic and absolutely invincible as Edachena Kunkan. Kaniha looks beautiful even without any make-up or jewellery and has the royal look that is required for her role as Kaitheri Makkom. As the fierce tribal girl who fights like a cheetah, Padmapriya excels in her role as Neeli. Manoj K Jayan, Suresh Krishna and Suman have all done their job quite convincingly. The rest of the cast, which include the English actors like Linda Arsenio, also delivers an inspiring performance.
It is not an ordinary movie. It reminds you of one of the great warriors which Indian soil gave birth to. It sings you an unsung story of a legend who horrified the British empire with his courage, determination and bravery. !!!

Playhouseproduced Raavu Maayumpol.
The production-distribution firm Playhouse led by Mammootty had been bold enough to give a helping hand to films like 'Rithu' and 'Kaana Kanmani'. While the former turned out to be profit maker for Playhouse, the later didn't fare better at the Box office, though it was released during Onam. Anyhow, Playhouse has started the plans for its first movie as the producer. Their first project will be ‘Raavu Maayumpol’ to be directed by Renjith. The movie will have the mega star as the hero. Meanwhile, Renjith and Mammootty's new movie ‘Palery Maanikyam’, Oru Pathiraakolapathakathinte Katha’ has already completed its shoots and will reach the theatres by this November.
Proud to be with Mammootty: Sarath kumar
Tamil star Sarath Kumar, who is sharing the screen with Mammootty for the magnum opus 'Pazhassi Raja' is much excited about the project and its outcome. The actor find it as his pride to get an opportunity to act along side Mammootty who is donning the title role in the movie. "Mammootty is an amazing actor who doesn't have any starry airs around him. It is quite exciting to watch him act and now we are thick friends". observes Sarath Kumar. ‘Pazhaasi Raja’, will have Sarath Kumar as Edachena Kunkkan, the army chief of the raja. No ticket price raise for Pazhassiraja
The fans of the Megastar will have a big sign of relief as Gokulam films, the producers of magnum opus 'Pazhassi Raja' have decided not to pursue the demand for a ticket hike. The movie will now release on 16th as per the recent intimations. The fans associations of the star have been making all the grand arrangements to receive the biggest of Mammootty's movies. The movie is expected to open in 120 centres in the state of Kerala, for this Diwali. Quite a few will also remember the fate of Mammootty's another big budget movie ‘Dubai’ which came almost a decade ago. The movie makers also decided for a ticket hike - double the rate for the initial few days - But the movie sank in the Box Office within a day, with little viewers coming up to watch the movie buying the astronomically priced tickets. And it never really regained the lost initial collections and still ‘Dubai’ is cited as the biggest debacle in the career of the megastar. The only movie that managed the tempo even with a ticket raise was AMMA's 'Twenty: 20'. The movie was offered with a 50 percent ticket raise for the first three days. But the trick worked in favour of the movie, as it paraded almost all popular stars of the industry in smaller or bigger roles. 'Twenty: 20' easily went on to become one of the biggest hits of last year.

Pazhassiraja on October 16.
The scheduled release of 'Pazhassi Raja' has been postponed again. It was scheduled to release on October 2. The new release date is October 16. The producer of the film Gokulam Gopalan and Exhibitors Federation president P.V Basheer pleaded the High court to allow them to raise the ticket rate to 50 percent from the releasing date for two months. They pointed that the film production cost was high (around 25 crores) and it has a historical and educational value. If the rate is not increased it would be difficult for them to get back the production cost. Justice P.N. Raveendran has directed the Local self government secretary to give a report.‘Pazhassi Raja’ has been made with limitless grandeur and stars. Obviously, the makers of the movie are in a fix as to how to compensate the total movie’s expense that mounts to nearly 25 crores. Now it seems the producer Gokulam Gopalan has requested the Kerala Government to bring 50 percent hike in the ticket price. A practice which has been followed for such movies earlier, the Govt. will now have to grant a special order to recover the budget through the hiked tickets. However, the State’s CPM government don’t seem to be happy with this demand, as the hike won’t be favourable to the common people. In the Hindi version of the film Sharukh Khan narrates the story of 'Pazhassi Raja'. In Malayalam Mohan Lal was narrated. In Tamil Kamal Haassan has done it. The film will get released all over India in 560 centres on October 16. The film will be released in 125 centres across Kerala.

Megastar busy even in Kollywood Megastar busy even in Kollywood
Mammootty is just now free out of the historical project "Pazhassi Raja", moreover it's amazing to know that he got just 60 lakhs as remuneration for this one! Sources close to the film had it that earlier Mammootty had intended to act as the Malayalam King Sundharapotta Veeran for free. But as the producer and the director insisted him to take the salary saying that it is not a full art film, the actor got this minimal pay. This historical action entertainer has Tamil star Sarath Kumar in one of the key roles. 'Pazhassi Raja' will be released in 4 languages including Hindi. On the other hand, Mammootty has started a fresh round in Tamil recently. Apart form the release of 'Pazhassi Raja' in Tamil, the actor will also be seen in 'Aaruvadai'. He is also signed up for Sanjai Ram’s 'Lingam', Ramesh Kanna’s 'Rajamanikkam' Sheik's 'Sarkar'. Sources say that the actor will be donning powerful character roles in these Tamil movies.
RafiMecartin joins with Prithviraj
Prithviraj seems to be in a continuous spree of right moves and movies. Though he has already proved that he is an efficient actor in roles that demand an action hero, he is yet to prove his timing in delivering full length comedies in Malayalam. Prithvi is now getting ready to make himself acclaimed as a complete actor. And as first step, he has agreed to be on the next scripts by Rafi-Mecartin, the director duo of comedy crappers. Prithvi will be acting on a Rafi-Mecartin script for a debut director named Safal, who had been an assistant to the duo for long. The movie is expected to start its shoot by the first months of 2010. Apart from this movie Prithvi will also don the hero role in the movies like 'Raghupathy Raghava Rajaram' by Shaji Kailas, Anwar by Amal Neerad, Thanthonny, 'Pokkiri Raja' and 'Cousins' by Lal Jose.

Is 'Sura'- A Remake of Chota Mumbai? Is 'Sura'- A Remake of Chota Mumbai?
Ilayathalapathi Vijay's 50th Tamil film Sura, being directed by S.P. Rajkumar and produced by Sangili Murugan, is rumoured to be a remake of Malayalam super star Mohanlal's Chota Mumbai (2007), directed by Anwar Rasheed. But director S.P. Rajkumar has refused to reveal anything on the film’s storyline. Though Vijay still has a song to be completed for his forthcoming release Vettaikaran, he has already started working for Sura, being shot across the coastal areas of Kerala. Tamannaah is the heroine. Set in the backdrop of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry area, Chota Mumbai tells the story of a few happy go-lucky fishermen from Chotta Mumbai Street, headed by Vasco (Mohanlal), fondly called 'Thalai' by his mates. Chotta Mumbai was a film that cashed in on Mohanlal's superstar image; its aim was to entertain (meaning no social message was delivered).
