50 percent tax concession for Pazhassi Raja
The Kerala government has given a 50 percent Entertainment tax concession to the producers of Pazhassi Raja. It is a good gesture by the state government as the producers have a better chance of recouping their investment. It means in Corporation areas where entertainment tax on Malayalam films is 25 percent, the theatres screening Pazhassi Raja will have to pay only 12.5 percent as tax. The entertainment tax in municipalities is only 20 percent, while in Panchayats it is 10 percent, in these areas too the tax will be reduced by half. After the governments magnanimous offer to reduce tax, the producers have withdrawn their plea to increase the ticket rates. Pazhassi Raja will now take a big historical opening, as it it releases for Diwali on October 16.
