Kerala High court stays release of Indian Panorama list
Publishing the list of films selected for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India, 2009, to be held in Goa from November 23 was stayed by the Kerala High Court on Thursday. Justice P.N. Ravindran ordered that the interim stay order would remain in force until the writ petition challenging the selection of the films was disposed of. The order came on a writ petition filed by film producer and director Ranjit. Ranjit's `Thirakkatha' and `Kerala Cafe' were sent to Panorama. He alleged that Panorama jury members were sidelining Malayalam films deliberately. According to him, though the directorate had not announced the selections made by the jury, the names of the films had been posted on a private website run by Goutham Bhaskar, who is one of the jury members. The list should be announced by the Director of Indian Federation of Film Industry. The act of jury member is against the rule. Ranjit demanded a detailed inquiry into the process of selection of films and take action, including making a fresh selection.
