Pazhassi Raja with Megastar Mammooty is to hit the screens by October 2nd itself. The most awaited film for the past two years will see once again the hit combination of Mammoootty, Hariharan and MT Vasudevan after a break. A magnum opus of Hariharan it is a plot centered on one of the historical figure. The film made under the direction of T.Hariharan, one of the best directors in the Indian film industry and scripted by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, the veteran writer is looked upon with many expectations by the viewers. Tamil actor Sarath Kumar comes in the role of Edachena Kunkan, the chief lieutenant of Pazhassi Raja. Suman the Tamil-Telugu actor will don the role of the villain Pazhaiveetan Chandu. Jagathi Sreekumar, Manoj. K. Jayan, Thilakan and Suresh Krishna are the other cast in this film. This is the second time the trios are coming together after the hit Oru Vadakkan Veeraghada which is an all time favourite of the Malayalees and one of the best scripted stories based on Vadakkan Pattukal. The film with Padma Priya, Linda Arsenio and Kaniha as the heroines is also being dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, the legendary ruler and warrior of the eighteenth century played by Mammootty is the protagonist of the film. Pazhassi Raja of the Padinjare Kovilakam from the Kottayam Family gets annoyed by the revenue policy of the East India Company Malabar. And so he threatens the British saying that he will destroy all the pepper vines if the British persisted in collecting the revenue. A brave freedom fighter Pazhassi Raja was one who raised his voice against the British rule. Historians say that he was one of the first rulers to raise a cry against British rule in India and the first freedom fighter, but not many people outside Kerala are aware of this fact. Pazhassi Raja is safe in the hands of Mammootty, the Malayalam megastar who remains one of the most complete performers to have graced the marquee. The star who can essay a character with ease, is all excited about his magnum opus. This period drama is the costliest Malayalam film made with a budget of around Rs 26 crore and would have a screening in over 500 plus screens worldwide. Under the banner of Gokulam films, this big budget movie is produced by Gokulam Gopalan. Recorded in Hungary with the Hungary symphony orchestra, the score and soundtrack is by the maestro Ilayaraja and the sound designer is the Oscar award winner Rasool Pookkutty. O.N.V Kurup is the lyricist of this film. The film made on the backdrop of historical incidents boasts of some awe-inspiring war scenes. "Pazhassi Raja is the biggest film I have ever done and I'm extremely proud of it. It is going to be an epic, made by some of the finest technicians of Indian cinema. Scriptwriter M T Vasudevan Nair and director Hariharan have relied on several authentic backgrounders, including the Malabar manual for reliable facts on the brave warrior's life. The producer, Gokulam Gopalan has made the film on a lavish scale, fit for an international audience" says Mammootty who plays the protagonist. "Today, we can be proud that South Indian movies, which have the best technicians in India, is on par with rest of the world. We have also been able to create a new market for our films and I’m sure Pazhassi Raja will push the envelope" - added the thespian actor who has graced Malayalam film industry for more than 30 years.
