Arun Vijay instead of Surya in Kandahar?

Arun Vijay, son of reputed character actor Vijay Kumar, will reportedly replace Suriya in Major Ravi's upcoming Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Kandahar (also starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan). Surya was chosen to play the role of a commando in the film but had to opt out due to unavailability of dates. It is also reported that Naadodigal girl Ananya has a role in this film. Amitabh will be seen as the father of a passenger on the ill-fated plane that was hijacked and Mohanlal will play a commando chief. Produced by Mohanlal's own Pranavam Arts, the film is inspired by the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999. It was hijacked by five Pakistani militants while on its way from Kathmandu to New Delhi on Christmas Eve and was forced to land in three different airports (Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai) before spending a week on the tarmac in Kandahar with 186 hostages on board. Kandahar will be shot in Delhi, Nepal and Kerala.

A dozen of movies going to release !

With the number of movies that are expected to be released this season, the fight for screens is likely going to take place. Sources indicate that at least about a dozen movies are likely to be released. Prithviraj starrer "Thanthonny" is already doing the rounds today friday with his brother Indrajith's Nayakan. Then we have "In Ghost House Inn" on 25th, Mammootty starrer "Pramaani" on 26th, Mohanlal-SureshGopi starrer Janakan on April3rd and Siddiue's AprilFool on April 1st. With all the movies already having a popular cast, we have to wait and see what steps the filmmakers take for a proper distribution.

"4 Idiots" on discussion !

Well, looks like Mollywood is taking a leaf out of Bollywood super hit "3 Idiots". According to sources, there are plans to make a similar movie titled "4 Idiots" in Malayalam. This one is likely to be directed by KM Pradheesh who is making his directorial debut. It will star Mukesh, Siddhique, Jagathy and Suraj in the lead. The shooting is scheduled to start this week and completed in 30 days but the heroines have not been decided as yet.

Megastar Mammootty starrer "Pramaani" is all set to release on March 26th, according to sources. It has been directed by B Unnikrishnan and has the sensuous beauty Sneha as the female lead. The competition seems to be getting tougher with some big moves on that week. Prithviraj's "Thanthonny" is also releasing on Mar18th. Meanwhile "In Ghost House Inn" which already has lot of expectations, is also releasing on the same day.

"Oru Naal Varum" to release on June !

Superstar Mohanlal and Sreenivasan are coming together after a long time. This time for the movie "Oru Naal Varum" which has been directed by T K Rajeevkumar. It has the hot and raunchy sex siren Sameera Reddy as the heroine. According to sources, the movie will be released in the month of June. The expectations are already high with the two popular actors coming together.

The talented actor Indrajit starrer "Nayakan" is currently under production and is expected to release soon. The movie already has lot of expectations as a complete action oriented movie. Indrajit has crooned for the title song for this one. While the dazzling beauty Dhanya Mary Varghese plays the heroine, the noted personality Siddique will play the villain. Many feel that this one will be a good break for Indrajit.

"In Ghost House Inn" on March 25th

Director Lal had given super hits in "In Harihar Nagar" and "Harihar Nagar 2". Now he is all set with yet another sequel of these films. Sources indicate that the movie "In Ghost House Inn" will be released on March 25th. Even this version has the same star cast for the lead. However, apart from being a rib tickling comedy, this one promises to be a horror movie as well.

The 82nd annual Oscars have wrapped up for another year, and the big winner is "The Hurt Locker".
The film took home six awards, most notably for Best Picture. Kathryn Bigelow won for Best Director, making her the first woman to win that particular award in Oscar history.
She beat out ex-husband James Cameron, who was nominated for "Avatar".
The picture also took home awards for Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and two in the sound category: Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
The major winners in the actor category were Jeff Bridges for Best Actor in "Crazy Heart", and Christoph Waltz, for Best Supporting Actor in "Inglourious Basterds".
The Best Actress award went to Sandra Bullock for her role in "The Blind Side".
Despite "Avatar" having nine nominations, they only earned three awards: Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.
Other notable winners?
"Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire": Mo'Nique won for Best Supporting Actress, and the film won for Best Adapted Screenplay. And "Up" has taken home two as well: One for Best Animated Feature and another for Best Original Score.
Awards were given out to "Music by Prudence" in the Best Documentary (Short Subject) category, to "Star Trek" for Best Makeup, to "Logorama" for Best Short Film (Animated), and to "The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)" won for Best Music (Original Song)..
The award for Best Short (Live Action) Film went to "The New Tenants", and best Costume Design went to "The Young Victoria".
And other winners were "The Cove", which took home the Oscar for Best Feature Documentary, and "The Secret in their Eyes" (El Secreto de sus Ojos) for Best Foreign Language Film.
Canadians were shut out of all the Oscar categories.

Seems like Mamta Mohandas is on a royal ride these days. Hardly had she completed Sathyan Anthikkad's fiftieth film in which she has been cast opposite Jayaram, Mamta has secured for herself yet another plum project. 'Malarvadi Arts Club' that marks the directorial debut of actor-singer Vineeth Sreenivasan started at Kochi. The pooja ceremony of the film that was held at BTH Sarovaram was attended by several prominent film personalities. Actor Sreenivasan was beaming with pride when he said that he was often asked if Vineeth would become more famous than him. Sreenivasan said that Vineeth's aims should even be higher than that. Megastar Mammootty described Vineeth as an individual who held high promise. He also said that the arts and sports club movement holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of people belonging to an older generation. Vineeth said that the film has been set in a village called Manassery and tells the story of five friends who run the Malarvadi Arts Club. Vineeth also said that it has taken him about one and a half years to complete the script. The film would have five new male faces along with two fresh female faces. Jagathy Sreelumar, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Salim Kumar and Suraj Venjarammoodu form the supporting cast. 'Malarvadi Arts Club' is being produced by actor Dileep under the banner of Grand Productions.

"Mohanlal misused the Colonel status": Azhikode

Critic Sukumar Azhikode on Thursday urged the State Government to conduct a public inquiry into the activities of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Addressing a meet-the-press programme here on Friday, he said the inquiry commission should look into the corruption and other unhealthy activities of AMMA and cine artists. “A change in the leadership of AMMA is necessary for the healthy growth of Malayalam film industry,” he said. He said actor Mohanlal misused the Colonel status in the Territorial Army by posing in uniform for the advertisement of Malabar Gold in national dailies on August 15, 2009. He said that the decision of Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit, Kalady, to confer the D Litt title on Mohanlal was unwarranted.
