Pazhassi Raja completed 100days.

"Pazhassi Raja" has been rewriting some of the records in Malayalam cinema. The movie recently completed 100 days and according to sources it is still running in five centers. Sources indicate that the movie has amassed more than Rs 25 crores so far. The movie which has been made with a budget of Rs 25 crores is believed to be one of the biggest hits. Meanwhile the movie has also received some of the popular awards of the season.

Mohanlal again with RGV??

If reports are to be believed, Ram Gopal Verma is all set to work with  Mohanlal again. The last time they had worked together was for the disastrous 'Aag' that had sunk without a trace at the box-office. Lal and RGV might join hands again for the sequel to their critically acclaimed film 'Company'. RGV is said to be working on the script of the film right now. RGV has been going through a lean phase lately, with most of his films turning out to be failures. Let's wait and see if Mohanlal is able to turn the tides for the director!

Janapriyanayakan is busy.

Dileep is currently busy with the Malayalam movie titled "Christian Brothers". According to sources, he will start shooting for his next movie soon. This movie titled "Kaaryasthan" will be directed by Thomson. The shooting is scheduled to start off during mid April. Meanwhile Dileep is also set to complete the shooting of "Paapy Appacha".

Mammootty bags Lifetime Achievement award.

Veteran actor Megastar Padmashree Bharath Mammootty has been named for the 'Lifetime Achievement' award for his all-round contribution to the Malayalam film industry by Malabar Chamber of Commerce. The award was announced on the occasion of the Chamber celebrating its 80th anniversary. However, the date and day on which the awards would be presented were not announced. The MCC that came into being in 1929, presently has 1500 members and has an association of another 5000 through 50 odd affiliated organizations of traders and industrialists.

Dileep going to start 2010

Dileep must be keeping his fingers crossed for 2010. After a lukewarm 2009, two of his films are all set for release. Siddique's "Bodyguard" and Kamal's "Aagathen" has Dileep playing very different roles. Dileep's heroine in "Bodyguard" is the sizzling Nayantara while 'Aagathen's heroine is Glamour girl Charmi. Bodyguard is going to hits theatres on January 23rd and Aagathan on February 11.

Lal-Sreeni in "Oru Naal Varum".

After an interval, Mohanlal and Sreenivasan will act in T.K. Rajeev Kumar's film "Oru Naal Varum", which has been scripted by none other than Sreenivasan. The two were latest seen in Roshan Andrews's "Ividam Swargamanu". "Oru Naal Varum" will go on the floors on February 14 and will be shot in and around Thiruvananthapuram. "The film is about the corruption all of us encounter in daily life," says Rajeev. Sameera Reddy is playing the female lead opposite Mohanlal.

Sneha again and again with Mammootty.

Sneha has grabbed yet another major role opposite Mammootty. She had earlier played Mammootty's heroine in the superhit 'Thuruppu Gulan' and in the Tamil megahit film 'Aanandam'. She has also completed the bilingual film 'Vande Matharam', in which she plays a pilot and Mammootty's female lead. The latest is that she would be donning the role of a Panchayat Secretary who is at loggerheads with the highly corrupt Panchayat President, played by Mammootty himself in 'Pramani'. Sneha would play Janaki, who is constantly locking horns with Viswanatha Panikker, the Panchayat President. B Unnikrishnan's script offers plenty of scope for the actress to display her acting potentials in a powerful role. It sure looks like Sneha is here to stay. Mohanlal-Joshiy next film "Family Man".

Joshiy would be directing Superstar Mohanlal again in another project after the multi starrer 'Christian Brothers'. Penned by A K Sajan, this film to be produced by Aroma Films has been titled 'Family Man'! A K Sajan had earlier planned another film with Mohanlal in the lead, but things had not worked out as planned. Family Man is expected to be a treat for the family audiences, that would at the same time have plenty of doses of action.!

Ujala Asianet film awards telecast on 30 January

The 12th Ujala-Asianet Film Awards 2010 that was held on 16 January will be telecast on 30 and 31 January on Asianet. The telecast would be available from 6.30 to 10 pm. The award function, witnessed by 40,000 people, was graced by several prominent persons from the film industry and socio-cultural spheres. Pazhasssiraja won the award for the best film while Ranjith won the award for the best director for Palerimanikyam. Mohanlal won the best actor award for his role in'Bhramaram and Ividam Swargamanu while Kavya Madhavan won the best female actress award for Banaras.

Mammootty speaks Kuttanaad slang.

The shooting of "Pramaani" is going at fast pace and about 50% of the shooting is already completed. The recent schedule took place in Ernakulam. This one being directed by B Unnikrishnan stars Mammootty and Sneha in the lead. After "Thachiledathu Chundan" which released about 12 years back, Mammootty will be seen speaking the Kuttanad slang in this one. He will be playing the role of a Panchayat President, Viswanath Panikkar.

Mammootty dedicated the doctorate to his father.

Megastar Mammootty was recently honoured with the doctorate degree. Speaking about this new honor, the actor recalled that his father advised him to opt for the science group during his school days so that he could take up medicine as a profession. However, fate had something else in store for Mammootty and the dream was never realized. The actor, during his acceptance speech at the university, said that his father’s wish had come true today and he dedicated the doctorate in honor of his late father.

Jayaram with "Kudumbasree Travels".

Jayaram had an average film career for 2009 with Bhagyadevatha, Kana Kanmani, My Big Father, Seetha Kalyanam etc. Malayalam welcomed the year 2010 with again a Jayaram movie Happy husbands which is running smoothly. Now Jayaram is back with a family character through the movie "Kudumbasree Travels". As the title suggests, the movie is entirely a family oriented film. Jayaram plays the role of a bus owner in the film, a kinda role played by Mohanlal in Varavelppu. The movie is directed by a debutant Kiran. But the director says that the movie beards a different story from that of Varavelppu.

Mammootty, Adoor, Umayalpuram to get Doctorate today

Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Megastar Mammootty and Mridangam maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman will be conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) of the University of Kerala at a special convocation here on Monday. Governor R.S. Gavai, who is also the Chancellor of the university, will present the degree at a function scheduled to be held at the University Senate Hall here. Mr. Gopalakrishnan is the first film director to be honoured with a D.Litt. by the University of Kerala. Mr. Mammootty is being given the degree for his histrionic talents that have earned him fame at the national level. Mr. Sivaraman is the fourth person from the music fraternity to be presented with a D.Litt., after Muthayya Bhagavathar, Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer and K.J. Yesudas.
The convocation will be preceded by a special meeting of the University Senate. Vice-Chancellor A. Jayakrishnan will move a resolution seeking approval for the decision to award the degree to the three personalities. As soon as the resolution is approved, the Senate members will move towards the Senate Hall in two lines. Education Minister M.A. Baby who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the University will arrive at the venue, followed by the Governor. After this, the Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the University Registrar and the recipients will don academic robes for the function. Another highlight of the ceremony is the academic procession headed by the Registrar and followed by members of the Senate and Syndicate and the Deans of various faculties. The audience will stand up as the procession enters the hall on its way to the dais. The last special convocation was organised by the University on June 21, 2008, when Supreme Court Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan was presented with a Doctor of Law degree, the 25th honorary degree awarded by the university. The university has not been organising convocation ceremonies since 1971 except to award special degrees like D.Litt. and D.Sc. The special convocation is being organised under Statute One of the University Act 1977.

"Bodyguard" coming soon..

The much awaited Malayalam movie "Bodyguard" seems to be finally ready for release. The movie which stars Dileep has been in the making for more than 100 days. Sources indicate that the movie had overshot the budget due to many breaks and other problems. Finally the movie is ready to be released on January 22nd, but there seems to be another hitch. Sources indicate that another Dileep starrer "Aagathan" is expected to be released on the same day which might end up in a clash.

SAJ dubbed to "Vetrinadai"

Superstar Mohanlal’s stylish action adventure Sagar alias Jacky is getting dubbed into Tamil as Vetrinadai. SAJ was one of the most stylish Mohanlal film where he plays a don and was a sequel to his 1989 film Irupatham Nootandu and is directed by Amal Neerad. The film has Bhavana playing a television reporter who comes to investigate the don’s dealings and slowly falls in love with him. Vetrinadai, releases in March as dubbed films get priority in a month where there will not be too many straight Tamil films. The film is being dubbed into Tamil by Sri Sai Cine Creations.

Prithviraj is keen for a remake.

Rising Superstar of south, Prithviraj is keen for a remake. The original flick is none other than "Vilkkanundu Swapnangal" which starred his father Sukumaran. Sources indicate that Prithvi will hold talks with MT Vasudevan Nair to rework the script. Prithvi has already let everyone know that this is the most favorite movie of his father. This was the movie which made Sukumaran one of the popular heroes.

Drona 2010- Another big release from Mammootty.

Megastar Mammootty's first flick of the year will be the Malayalam flick "Drona". The movie is expected to be released on 21st of this month in a grand scale. Sources indicate that the movie by Shaji Kailas will be release in 100 theatres across the state. This flick which is a supernatural thriller has Mammootty in a special role. The heroines of the movie are the luscious beauty Kaniha and the dusky seductress Navya Nair.

Happy Husbands - 1st release of 2010

Happy Husbands, directed by Saji Surendran, is set to be the first Malayalam release of 2010. Starring Jayaram, Jayasurya, Rima Kallingal, Bhavana, Indrajith and Samvrutha Sunil, the film is expected to be a commercial entertainer for families. Scripted by Krishna Poojappura, the film’s lyrics have been penned by Gireesh Puthenchery. The music has been composed by M Jayachandran. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on January 14. The same team has earlier delivered a hit with Ivar Vivahitharayal.

"Christian Brothers" to finally starts on Jan 2nd week.

The Malayalam movie "Christian Brothers" had run into rough weather as the producers' council had opposed the budget being overshot. The council had decided that all the movies should be made within a budget of Rs 3.5 crores. The movie which is a multi-starrer has Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Dileep and Kavya Madhavan in the lead. Meanwhile it seems like the trouble for the movie is over. According to sources, this flick will start shooting on January 11th under the direction of Joshiy.

Casanova shoots again postponded.

Mohanlal starrer "Casanova" has been delayed for some time now. The movie which was supposed to kick off this week had been postponed since the producer backed off. Now the movie has found a new producer in Antony Perumbavoor and sources indicate that the shooting will start in the month of February. Another change that has taken place is that Tamil star Arya has been replaced by another Tamil new comer Ganesh Venkatraman in the movie. The leading ladies of the movie are Lakshmi Rai, Sameera Reddy and Roma.
