MohanLal starts Sanjeev's movie

Mohanlal has started shooting for the new untitled movie directed by debutante N R Sanjeev. A popular associate director in Mollywood. Sanjeev will cast Lal as a lawyer named Surya Narayanan in the movie. Suresh Gopi will also appear in a key role in this project which will also feature Jyothirmayi and Sindhu Menon in other prominent roles. Meanwhile Mohanlal's two other projects 'Angel John' and 'Alexander, The Great' are in the editing and post production stages. Both the movies will reach the theatres in the next couple of months. Mohanlal will be the defending lawyer of Suresh Gopi in debutant director NR Sanjiv’s new untitled crime thriller produced by Arun and distributed by Maxlab Films. According to sources, Mohanlal will make a 20 minute cameo appearance in this film as the brilliant criminal lawyer Suryanarayanan, who saves a villager Viswanathan (Suresh Gooi) and his friends (played by Biju Menon and Harisri Asokan), accused of a murder. The shooting has already begun in Neyyattinkara. Kaveri plays Suresh Gopi's wife Nirmala, while newcomer Priya is his daughter. Others in the cast are Tamil villain Sampath, Vijayaraghavan, Ganesh Kumar, Vijayakumar, Jyothirmayi, Ranjita Menon and others. The film is written by veteran script writer S.N. Swamy.

Oru Black & White Kudumbam on September 2

Jayasuriya and Kalabhavan Mani's Oru Black & White Kudumbam, directed by Shaiju Anthikkad of the Shaiju-Shaji duo, will grace screens on Thiru Onam (September 2). Bhama is the heroine. The film is about a handsome guy Adithya Varma (Jayasuriya), son of a dark-skinned lorry driver Antony (Kalabhavan Mani) and fair mother Lakshmi (Vinayaprasad). Antony has a complex about his colour, more so since as his wife, who belongs to a Kovilakam family, is fair and beautiful. This family is known as 'Oru Black and White Kudumbam' in their neighborhood. Adithya, who completes his MBA, dreams of working in Australia but due to a twist in the story, his life changes forever. Also in the cast are Lalu Alex, Jagathy, Biju Kuttan, Manju Pillai, Ponnamma Babu, Suraj Venjarammood, Anoop Chandran and others. Produced by M. Mani under the banner of Sunitha Productions, the film has music by Alex Paul. Camera is by Jibu Jacob.

Charmi Dileep's heroine

Dileep is one actor who has discovered many new actresses in the industry. His latest new heroine is Charmi , in Kamal’s new untitled film, which is starting in Ooty from September 4. Charmi has actually replaced Mamta Mohandas who has reported sick and withdrawn from the film. For the last one week Kamal and Dileep were on a heroine hunt and finally chose Charmy, as the character she plays requires glamour. Dileep has played hero to a lot of new girls like Manju Warriar (Sallapam, who later became his wife), Meera Jasmine (Suthradharan), Navya Nair (Ishtam), Kavya Madhavan (Chandranuddikunna Dikku)etc. He has given new girls a hit which established them in the industry. Remember that Charmi had made her screen debut in Malayalam with Vinayan directed Katuchembakam years back before she became the oomph girl of Telugu films.

Prthvi instead of Narein in 'Pokkiriraja'.

Witnessing the growth of Prithviraj as a mass hero with the new flick 'Puthiya Mukham', many Mollywood cinephiles will definitely dream of a chance of getting together this young artist with any of the super stars who are driving the industry for decades. With the recent developments in Mollywood, it seems that this chance is going to materialize. Young super star Prithviraj has now replaced Narain in the new Mammootty flick titled "Pokkiri Raja". Prithvi will now play a meaty role as younger brother to the character played by megastar Mammootty. This biggest casting coup in Mollywood is brought out by debutante director Vaishakh Abraham, who will start calling the shots for the movie from the first week of January. Mulakupadam release will produce this movie, which is the Vishu offering of both the stars.

Kavya returns as 'Yakshi'

Kavya Madhavan, said to be on the verge of a divorce with husband Nishal Chandra, has signed up for Major Ravi's 'Maadan Kolli'. Major Ravi directs this horror movie; Prithviraj will be the hero. Kavya's role is that of an IPS officer who investigates a murder case during day time and turns into a blood-thirsty 'yakshi' at night. This would surely be a challenge for Kavya and only she could do justice to the role, the director said. Prithviraj plays an exorcist, Devadathan Narsimhan, in the movie. Kavya and Prithviraj had starred in 'Ananthabhadram', a film by Santhosh Sivan in the backdrop of black magic. 'Maadan Kolli' is scheduled to start shooting in December.

Mohanlal as "Raman Police"

Shaji Kailas is once again gearing up to create another super human police officer character for Mohanlal. He has already signed the Onam project of Mohanlal for the year 2010. The movie titled as "Raman Police" will be scripted by A K Saajan. Interestingly Mohanlal was in a police role last time, in the movie 'Baba Kalayani' which was also directed by Shaji Kailas. Meanwhile the director who is presently shooting for ' RaghupathyRagahava Rajaram', featuring Prithviraj in triple roles, will movie on to another Mammootty starer before starting "Raman Police". This new project scheduled for Vishu 2010 will be another action thriller in the scripts of A K Saajan.

Lakshmi Rai's hat trick with Mammootty

Is Lakshmi Rai, Mammootty's current favourite heroine? The actress who claims to be romantically involved with Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni is now going to do a hat-trick with Mammootty. Lakshmi Rai, has become the number one heroine in Malayalam film after the 2009 blockbuster 2 Harihar Nagar, released for summer. Now the latest we hear is that the actress has been signed by director Shafi and producer Anto Joseph to be Mammootty's heroine for his forthcoming action comedy Chattambinattil! The actress will be doing her third film with Mammootty following the super hit Annan Thambi and the Parunthu. The shoot of Chattambinattil will start in Pollachi from 9/9/9, and it will be Mammootty's big Christmas release.

Onam without BigMs movies

Onam 2009 will be the first ever Onam in 20 years without a Mammootty or a Mohanlal release. Normally both will have an Onam biggie, but this time since Noyambu period falls during Onam season, hence there will not be any release for them. The fans of the actors will miss them this Onam. Anyway the trade is not grumbling as both the stars have been on a slide so far this year. Now the focus of attention has shifted to Jayaram’s Kana Kanmani, which is going to be the Onam 2009 biggie. Jayaram through Kana Kanmani reunites with his Veruthe Oru Bhariya core team of writer Gireesh, music director Shyam Dharman and directors Akku Akbar. There is a big buzz about this family entertainer, Mammootty's Play House are distributing the film which will be Jayaram's biggest release in 70 screens across Kerala on Thiru Onam day which falls on Wednesday, September 2.

Vinoo Anand with Mammootty movie

Director Vinoo Anand of 'Oruvan' and 'Heartbeats' fame will be director of Mega star Mammootty's new film to be produced by M.K. Nazar under the banner of Good Line. This yet-to-be-titled movie is scripted by BipinChandran of Mammootty's latest superhit movie Daddy Cool. Meanwhile, Mammootty is getting ready to play a Karnatak-based Malayalee estate owner in director Shafi's new film Chattambinadu, scheduled to start rolling from September 9 at the locations in and around Pollachi. After the successive hits Mayavi and Thommanum Makkalum, this is the third time that Mammootty and Shafi come together for a film. Lakshmi Rai will be the heroine.

Dozen of films on location

In Mollywood at least a dozen of films are on locations, in their various stages of shooting. The super stars are also in the fray engaged with their various films, that are planned for October release. Mohanlal is in Kochy shooting for 'Angel John' directed by Jayasuriya. Featuring Nithya and Mamtha in the female lead, the movie is currently into its second schedule. Mammootty is busy with the movie 'Palery Manickyam, Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha' directed by Renjith. Being shot at various pats of Kozhikkodu, the movie features Gouri Munjal and Mythili as the heroines. While Lal Jose has already completed the shoot for 'Neelathamara' in veteran M T Vasudevan Nair's scripts, senior director Joshy has also completed the last round of shoot for his Ramzan release 'Robinhood'. Cameraman Sukumar is giving final touches to his directorial debut 'Swa Le' which features Dileep and Gopika in the lead roles. The other films that are in various stages of shooting includes Dileep's 'Body Guard', debutante Binu Kumar's 'Njangalude Veedu', Viji Thampi's 'Chemistry', Remakanth Sarju's 'Uthara Swayamvaram' and Jefry Jallel's 'Khilaphath'.

Jagadheesh scripts again

After having scripted nine super hit films [Ganamela (1991), Minda Poochakku Kalyanam (1990), Adhipan (1989), News (1989), Manivatharile Aayiram Sivarathrikal (1987), Nandi Veendum Varika(1986), Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu (1986), Akkare Ninnoru Maran (1985) and Mutharamkunnu P.O. (1985)], Mollywood's comic hero and supporting actor Jagadheesh is getting ready as a script writer once again! The ace actor's next film, titled Ladies And Gentlemen, is to be directed by Viji Thampy. According to sources, Jagdheesh and Siddhique will team up as protagonists for this family movie, produced by Santhosh Damodharan under the banner of Damor films. The movie will start rolling by the first week of October. The veteran actor also has plans to direct a new movie with Megastar Mammootty as hero. Ajaychandran Nair, maker of Anandhabhadram and Chotta Mumbai, will produce Jagadheesh's yet-to-be-titled directorial venture, which will be one of the prestigious projects of Mammootty in the first half of 2010. The initial works, including the scripting, is on. Jagadheesh will also handle the script of this film.

►Mammootty and Prithvi Raj to share the screen◄

After the Big success of magnum opus 'Twenty:20', ace scriptwriters Sibi K Thomas -Uday Krissna will once again team up with Mammootty.This time Megastar Mammootty and Prithvi Raj will share the screen for the film titled 'Pokkiri Raja'. The movie will tell the story of relation ship between two brotheres. Mammootty will don the title role in this movie which will be the debut venture of young director Vysakh.

The movie which will be produced by Tomichan Mulakupadom in the banner of Mulakupadom Films will also have Jassie Gift making a comeback to Malayalam cinema ,after a couple of years. The movie will feature four songs from Jassie. This Mammootty and Prithvi flick is expected to reach the theatres vishu 2010.

►VANDE MATHARAM CHARTED FOR NOVEMBER 21◄

The movie Vande matharam charted for November 21.Vande Mataram is based on the story of a group of officers who go hunting for terrorists, who have been creating havoc in the Tamilnadu – Kerala border. Mammootty plays an officer in the Intelligence Bureau while Arjun plays a Superintendent of Police.

The film begins at the central investigative agency finds out that Malik, head of a terrorist organization, has crossed the border and entered India to execute deadly explosions in South India. Gopi Krishnan played by Mammootty, Southern zone command director of the Intelligence bureau, is assigned the task of tracing the plans of the group, eliminating them and destroying their plans.

There is an eleventh element in the project which will be the integration of the ten stories. The story happens in a Railway cafeteria called “ Kerala Café” where there is an interaction among the characters of the different stories. This will be collectively shot by the participating Directors and the cinematography of this portion will be done by Prakash Kutty, an FTII product.

Ranjith is the compiler and the chief architect of the project.
